Summertime Easy with a Paper Pumpkin Alternative

Hello and thanks for visiting!

I like to keep card making in summer easy, and Paper Pumpkin Kits are the perfect thing for summertime crafting.  Take them with you on vacation, they're great for rainy day activities with the kids, or just to quickly create a bunch of all occasion cards to have at the ready, whatever, everything you need is in one little box.

This week the CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #484 provides us with a sketch and the Paper Players Challenge #605 is a Clean And Simple (CAS) Challenge with a Nautical Theme.  So I decided to only use the supplies in my Paper Pumpkin Kit called Sending Good Thoughts from July 2022.

I hope the *Trix on this card will inspire you to stretch the supplies in your kit and mix things up a bit.  The Bermuda Bay card base inspired my monochromatic clean & simple card. 

     

Assembly & Trix:

*  Cut a die cut piece of coral with paper snips to create 5 images as per the sketch.  Flip them over and colour the white side with a lighter Bermuda Bay shade.  Here's the ***Trix, did you know if you mount your photopolymer stamps upside down on your block you can create a solid image.  Stamp off once and then apply the blotchy colour to the coral die cut shapes.  For colour variation use the coral stamp right side up. 

*  Adhere the stamped die cuts with glue on the Bermuda Bay card base.

*  Stamp the white label and the reverse side of the starfish using the same technique as above to create a subtle colour variation, then stamp the sentiment with full strength Bermuda Bay Ink.  Adhere to the card with dimensionals. Stamp and fussy cut the sea horse for a bit of an extra.

Assembly & Trix

*  Stamp the Hippo from the Hippest Hippos Stamp Set, #159921 and colour with Stampin' Blends Markers, I used Smoky Slate and Petal Pink, and die cut out with the coordinating Hippos Dies, #159928

*** Trix, colour a scrap piece of vellum with blends markers and die cut out.  I liked the colour variation of each flower, the watery look and lightness you get with the Vellum.

*  Stamp the sentiments from the Amazing Phrasing Stamp Set, #159930 with Bermuda Bay ink and fussy cut out.  ***Trix, cover the 'I' from the 'I miss you' sentiment with a post it note, stamp the ink pad, peel away the note and stamp the sentiment on scrap basic white cardstock.

*  Adhere the dies cut flowers and water splashes with glue.  Adhere the Hippo and sentiments with dimensionals.   Embellish with 2021 -2023 In Color™ Opal Rounds, #159185 and White Bakers Twine, #155475

*  The thick Basic white card base is 4 1/4 x 5 1/2, the Hippo layer is Basic White 4 x 5 1/4, with a layer of Bermuda Bay a smidge bigger.

*  Check out the 2 1/4 x 3 top layer - can you see the ***Trix? - Add a bit of White Craft Stampin' Ink, #147277 with a blending brush - does it repeat the soft feel of the DSP?

***Trix, Watercolour a stem from the Meadow Dies, #155852 with coordinating colours on Shimmery White cardstock - dab - flick - drop water droplets - play to create a variation of colour on the die cut.  ***Trix, for quick colour coordination, use the colours from the DSP for the watercolour wash.  Bermuda Bay & Coastal Cabana.  Calypso Coral & Petal Pink. Blackberry Bliss, Petal Pink & Rich Razzleberry.  Evening Evergreen, Soft Succulent & Soft Sea Foam.  

*  Fray the ends of White 3/4" Frayed Ribbon, #158138  - a subtle detail that flows with the airiness of the DSP.

***Trix, for an quick and easy snowy scene, stamp the trees from the Trees For Sale Stamp Set, #159785 with Parakeet Party & Garden Green ink directly on the Free Sale-A-Bration Designer Series Paper called Silver & Gold 6 x 6, #159941. Adhere the 4 x 5 1/2 DSP to a piece of Parakeet Party cardstock a smidge bigger, then adhere to a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 Pool Party card base.

*  Die cut 'Tallulah'  ;)  from the Tree Lot Dies - Unfortunately this free die set was so popular its now unavailable - hopefully that means it will come back next year with this awesome little whimsical stamp set.  Alternatively, use the 'Tallulah' stamp from the stamp set and fussy cut out. 

* Tie a bow with the 2022 -2024 In Color™ Baker's Twine Pack, #159195 and adhere with a Glue Dot to the card base.  

*  Stamp the 'joy' sentiment 3x from the Brightest Glow Stamp Set, #159542 with Parakeet Party and Sweet Sorbet ink, then fussy cut out.  Fussy cut the sentiment & pop it up with dimensionals cut to size to really pop it off the card.  ***Trix, cut the edges off the dimensionals sheet to get tiny pieces suitable for the tiny strip of 'Joy'  :)

Meadow Dies for #FMS548

 Hello and thanks for visiting!

Today's card is inspired by Jacquie's Sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches.  And by two plants I love to see growing together - Chicory and Queen Anne's Lace.  At this time of year I see them along the roadsides and farmers fields and I'm reminded of our fields around our Apple Orchard when I was a child.  I think Orchid Oasis looks like the blue of the Chicory plant.  Check out my iStock photo below and see what you think :)

Assembly & Trix

*  I love using die cuts to create texture.  ***Trix, die cut the Meadow Dies, #155852 stems from Basic White cardstock and adhere to a 4 x 5 1/4 Basic White cardstock layer with glue.  Then adhere to a Thick Basic White card base.

*  Emboss a 2 x 5 1/4 strip of Orchid Oasis with a White Queen Anne's Lace stem, #152607 - this stamp set retired last year, but I had to bring it back for this card memory of mine.  Alternately use the flax flower stem from the coordinating Quiet Meadow Stamp Set, #155082.

*  Embellish with a White Bakers Twine, #155475 and the embossed sentiment from the stamp set.  Add in the fabulous New 2022 - 2024 In Color™ Matte Decorative Dots, #159186 for a little bit of somethin' while keeping the card clean & simple.

Hippest Hippo for the CAS Colour & Sketch Challenges #482

Today's today's card is inspired by the Sketch Challenge #482 over at CAS Colour & Sketch Challenges.  Please click on either my card or the #cascoloursandsketches image to visit their blog and then go make a Clean & Simple (CAS) card to share with someone 'just because'.  

My card is going to my mom, she loves orange, and truthfully I don't use orange often, so I was inspired and challenged to join the #tgifc380 colour challenge - Pumpkin Pie, Melon Mambo & Bermuda Bay.

Assembly & Trix

*  Add a bit of Bermuda Bay ink with a Blending Brush to the 3 1/4 x 4 1/2 Basic White cardstock layer and stamp the sentiment first before adhering the the 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 Thick Basic White card base.  

*  Stamp & die cut the Hippo from the Hippest Hippos Stamp Set, #159921 & the Hippos Dies, #159928.  Colour with Stampin' Blends Markers of choice (I used Smoky Slate & Petal Pink) and adhere with dimensionals.

*  Die cut the umbrella with Pumpkin Pie cardstock and the hearts with Melon Mambo and adhere with glue.  The umbrella is adhered with dimensionals.  ***Trix, when working with tiny die cut pieces, lay the die cut hearts on the card front first, then using the putty end of the Take Your Pick Tool, #144107 lift one heart up, dab a tiny bit of Multipurpose Liquid Glue on the card layer then lay the heart on top.  I also take off the pokey end and use it to hold the die cut in place while I lift off the putty end.  Yep it's a two handed job :)

Chalkboard Technique with the Hippos for #GDP355 & #tgifc380

 Hello and thanks for visiting!

Today's card is a fun technique inspired by a few things.  First, last weeks challenge at #tgifc379 - Back to School theme - 'cause back to school for me meant colouring on chalkboards.  I love chalk art and yes I'm dating myself when I say I cleaned the chalkboard brushes at lunch for the teacher so I could stay in and use the colour chalks!  Anybody else remember those days - ha!  I couldn't participate last week but the chalkboard theme carried over in my head to this weeks #tgifc380 Color Challenge.

2.  The Global Design Project #355 Theme Challenge - Animals inspired me to use the Hippest Hippos Stamp Set, #159921 & Hippo Dies, #159928 Free during Sale-A-Bration.  Please click the hyperlinks to visit the blogs and enjoy the inspiration!

 

Assembly & Trix

***Trix, to get a chalkboard look, blend White Craft Stampin' Ink, #147277 on Basic Black cardstock with a Blending Brush.  This 3 1/4 x 4 1/2 chalkboard is adhered to a piece of Perfectly Penciled DSP, #159244 an 1/8 of an inch bigger.

*  Stamp the hippo and flowers with White Craft Ink and allow to dry.  The flowers are from the Lovely You Stamp Set, #152525  ***Trix, colour the flowers with Watercolor Pencils to get the coloured chalk look.  I used Pumpkin Pie, Melon Mambo & Bermuda Bay, all colours in the Assortment 1 pack, #141709 .

*  Stamp the sentiment with White Craft Ink on a piece of Bermuda Bay cardstock and adhere with dimensionals. 

*  Adhere the stamped chalkboard layer to a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 Bermuda Bay card base.  I chose to emboss the card base with the retired Hammered Metal 3D Embossing Folder just for a bit of interest.

It's a Wonderful World Stamp Set

 Hello and thanks so much for visiting!

Assembly & Trix

*  Adhere a 4 x 5 1/4 piece of Wonderful World DSP to a piece of Rich Razzleberry cardstock a smidge bigger, then to the 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 Starry Sky card base.

*  Die cut the edge of a 3 1/4 x 4 piece of Basic White & Orchid Oasis cardstock using the Blossoming Happiness Dies, #158823 then adhere together on an angle. 

*  Stamp the flower from the Wonderful World Stamp Set with Orchid Oasis Ink and then again with Rich Razzleberry Ink.  ***Trix, very slightly shift the stamp when stamping with the Rich Razzleberry Ink, then colour in with a Fresh Freesia Stampin' Blends Marker.

*  Flick Orchid Oasis & Fresh Freesia ink from the Stampin' Blends Marker, as well as a bit of Wink 0f Stella.

*  Stamp the sentiment from the Happiness Abounds stamp set, #159238 with Starry Sky ink on a 1/2 inch piece of Basic White cardstock and adhere to a 1/2 inch piece of Rich Razzleberry cardstock.  Embellish with gems, I used the retired 2021 - 2023 In Color™ Jewels.
